Obituary of Catherine Newcomb Hoshor

Catherine Newcomb Hoshor (Cathi), age 70, past resident of West Laurel and Ashton Maryland passed away on February 15, 2016 in Fort Myers, Florida where she and her husband had retired in 2005. She was a homemaker and small business owner (Cathi's Creations). Cathi earned membership in the Mayflower Society by tracing her lineage on her father's side to two passengers on the Mayflower. She was born September 25, 1945 in Rochester, NY, to the late Ralph Ernest Newcomb and the late Catherine Hannah (Gear) Newcomb. Her father joined the Army during WWII, retiring as a Colonel. Cathi's youth was spent traveling and living in Hawaii, Northern Virginia and Europe where her father was stationed. After graduating from Wakefield High School in Virginia she attended Rochester University, graduating in 1967 with a degree in English. In the summer of 1967 she entered on duty at the National Security Agency on Fort Meade, Maryland. It was there that she met her husband John, also a new employee. They were married on June 29, 1968 in Rochester and resided in Greenbelt, Maryland. When her husband was transferred to an Army field station in Ethiopia, she left her job and accompanied him. They were able to travel to the Red Sea, game parks in Kenya and the Indian Ocean near Mombasa. Returning to Maryland they moved to West Laurel and began their family. She proudly raised two sons, John A. and Michael, who grew up and graduated from Laurel High School. While living in Maryland Cathi was active with the West Laurel Civic Association and the West Laurel Recreation Council. As an excellent multimedia crafter, Cathi helped start the WLCA/Bond Mill School Annual Craft Fair and participated in it for many years. She expanded her crafting into a business that displayed items in several malls and stores for many years. She is survived by her husband: John D Hoshor, two sons: John A. Hoshor (Denise Holmes) of Clermont, Florida, Michael D. Hoshor (Julie) of Crownsville, Maryland and sister-in-law, Jeanie Hoshor of Sun City, Arizona. She was especially proud of her grandchildren: John Chase Hoshor, Payton Foster Hoshor, Caitlyn Grace Hoshor whom she loved dearly. Interment is planned for St. Anne's Cemetery in Annapolis, Maryland on March 23, 2016 at 3:00 pm. Arrangements by Akin-Davis Funeral Home - Fort Myers www.akin-davis.com
