Obituary of Raleigh Fred Dyess
Raleigh Fred Dyess, Sr, age 72, of Clewiston, passed away with his family at his side on May 14, 2016 in Clewiston.
He was born Jan. 27, 1944 in Fort Myers, FL, to the late Earl S and the late Dorothy (Van De Valde) Dyess, Sr. Mr. Dyess married Glinda Murray April 18, 1966 in Dothan, Alabama. He served in the Navy from June 30, 1961 to January 26, 1965. Mr. Dyess worked for Evercane Sugar house for over 33 years as a Process Supervisor; worked for United States Sugar Corporation for five years, he served on the Hendry County School Board for 7 years, he was one of the main supporters for the Clewiston High School; he was also the main guy who pushed for the clear flashing lights to be installed on all of the Hendry County School buses. He was a member of the Hendry County Corrections Education Board, was a member of the Hendry County Hunting Club for several years, a 27 year member of the Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his loving and caring wife: Glinda "Kay" Dyess and two sons: Fred Dyess, Jr of Clewiston, FL and William "Billy" Dyess of Clewiston, FL, one brother: Sermon Dyess, Jr and his wife Ann of Clewiston, FL grandsons, Codey Dyess and Wyatt Dyess of Clewiston, FL, many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Fred was preceded in death by both of his parents and one uncle Bill Dyess.
Celebration of his life will be Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, Clewiston with John Martin officiating. Interment will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clewiston.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1 hour prior to service at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, Clewiston, FL.
