Obituary of Richard Gordon Vance

Richard Gordon Vance, age 77, of Clewiston, passed away on May 27, 2016 at his home in Clewiston surrounded by his family. He was born Apr. 3, 1939 in Centralia, IL, to the late Marvin L. Vance and the late Dorcas (Briggs) Vance. The survivors include his wife: Celia Ann (Hughes) Vance, son: Douglas Howser, daughters: Robbie Munson, Patty (Matthew) Kalinowski, Lauri (David) Stark, Veronica (Ricardo) Mojica, Lisa (Brian) McCarthy and Lynna (Brian) DeMay, sister: Barbara Vance, and many grandchildren along with great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister: Vicki Simpson and son: Ronnie Howser. He was raised in Mt. Vernon, IN, where he attended MVHS (he was recently put into the hall of fame for athletics there) and after high school he attended Oklahoma State, after that he worked with his father in the oil fields. Later on he moved to Clewiston in 1968, where his first job was being a Guide out on Lake Okeechobee while also running the Hess station. He then went into business with his father when he bought the Clewiston Marina. At one time or another, he ran/owned most Marina's in town. But his other hobby was hunting. Both he and his family (wife and great-great granddaughter Acacia Blue) spent a lot of time travelling to Georgia so he could do so. He was part of putting together The Lake Okeechobee Bass Club and he also wrote an article for the Clewiston News about fishing. Cremation Arrangements by Akin-Davis Funeral Home - LaBelle.
