Obituary of Roy Louis Curry

Roy Louis Curry, Sr., age 73, of LaBelle, passed away March 18, 2017 in Lehigh Acres. He was born June 23, 1943 in Fort Myers, FL, to Mack and Nettie Marie (May) Curry. He graduated from LaBelle High School in 1961. Mr. Curry married Sharon Brooks. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1964 – he was a member of 101st Airbourne Division. He owned and operated Roy's Crane Service for over 23 years, ironically after retirement he worked part time with the State of Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission as a check station operator at Fisheating Creek WMA during hunting season. Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sitting around a fire telling hunting and fishing stories. Roy was a family man and was so very proud of his children and grandchildren. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years: Sharon (Brooks) Curry, daughter; Cheryl Henderson and husband Scott, son; Roy, Jr. "Bubba", grandchildren; Ashley Curry and Thomas Henderson and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, brother; Edward Curry, sister; Frances Doll, and granddaughter Lia Henderson. Roy will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11:00 am at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, LaBelle with Pastor Jim Dana officiating. Interment will be in Fort Denaud Cemetery, LaBelle with Rev. Ronnie Brooks officiating at the graveside committal. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the funeral service at Akin-Davis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Roy's family has requested that a donation in Roy's name be given to Hope Hospice.
