Obituary for: James Paul Sparks James Paul Sparks, age 85, of Clewiston, passed away November 6, 2010 in Clewiston, FL. He was born Apr. 3, 1925 in Blue Mountain, the son of the late Louis Jefferson and the late Elviney (Whitehead) Sparks. Mr. Sparks married Letha Fielder November 3, 1950. He served in the United States Navy from October of 1942 until October of 1947. He was a Radioman Second Class in the 7th Fleet aboard the USS Fall River under the command of William "Bull" Halsey, Jr. during Operation Crossroads in the Marshall Islands. He was aboard the ship while the took over the German Ship named Prince Eugene. He received Asiatic Pacific, Victory Medal and Good Conduct Ribbon. He was a Owner/Operator of Sparks Appliance Repair. He was a Ham Radio Enthusiast, his call sign was AA4BN, he was a member of the American Radio Relay League for over 30 years, he was a member of the Hendry County Emergency Management Team for many years, he served at President of Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (R.A.C.E.S.), he most recently helped to communicate with the survivors of the Haiti Earthquake with his Ham Radio. he was a member of The V.F.W and American Legion. Survivors include his wife of Sixty years: Letha(Fielder) Sparks, one son: Donald (Donna) Sparks and one daughter: Linda Pelham and one sister: Winifred Miller; grandchildren include Sara Sparks, Meghan Sparks and Donald Bruce Sparks, Jr.; great grandchildren include Dolton Maloy, Wyatt Sparks and Clayton Sparks. Funeral services will be held Thu. November 11, 2010 at 11:30 am at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, 438 E. Sugarland Hwy., Clewiston with Rev. Samuel Thomas Ph.D. officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be Thu. November 11, 2010 in Ortona Cemetery, Moore Haven. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at Akin-Davis Funeral Home, Clewiston, FL.
