Obituary of Donald Robert McCraine
Don is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan Comis McCraine of Clewiston; his daughter Brandi (Shawn) McConniel of Clewiston; his son Robert Edward McCraine also of Clewiston, his brother Donald Kenneth McCraine (Becky) of Centreville, MS; 6 granddaughters, Jessica Lee-Ann, Courtney Jean Marie, Mariah Lynn, Faith Marie, Amber Sue and Jordan Nanu-Lee; and 1 grandson Noah Maximillian Morales.
He was predeceased by his parents Margent Helen Johnson of Clearmont, FL and William "Mac" McCraine of Centreville, MS.
Don was born on March 3, 1945 in Eustis, FL, upon graduating from high school he went into the United States Navy as a Sea Bee and served his tour in Vietnam. He returned to Florida and joined the Florida Highway Patrol in 1970, where he would meet his wife Susan and marry her in April of 1970. Don would serve 20 years as a Highway Patrol Officer, and retire. Don worked at many jobs from surveying to being a mechanic. Upon moving to Clewiston 10 years ago Don got a job for the city as Superintendent of Ball Fields where he spent many years taking care of the ball fields so that the youth of Clewiston would have ball fields to be proud of.
Don is a Past Commander of VFW Post 4185 in Clewiston, FL. Besides his family his passions were camping and fishing watching Nascar. Don will be greatly missed and not only does he leave behind his loving family he leaves behind many friends who he cared about.
Memorial serves will be held on Saturday November 13, 2010 at 12:00 pm (noon) at VFW Post 4185 located at 501 San Francisco Street, Clewiston, FL. In Lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to Hope Hospice or to the Fisher House at The VA Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL.
