Obituary of Donald Leroy Gockley
Donald Leroy Gockley passed away at 1:30 a.m. January 10, 2019 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers, Florida. He was born on August 30, 1931 in North Platte, Nebraska to Mae and Eldon Gockley. His first wife was Shirley Ann Dunbar Gockley (deceased). Donald married Anna Marie (Carter) Gockley July 24, 1967 in Miami, Florida. At the time of Donald's death they had been married for 52 years.
Donald is also survived by his three sons, Larry (Janice) Gockley, James (Theresa Sanger) Gockley, and David (Cindy) Gockley, four stepchildren, Cheryl (Tim) Grothaus, Kim (Richard) Moore and Robin (Matthew) Rinehart, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Gockley and his stepson, John Hardeman.
Donald was a 1949 graduate of Grand Island High School, Grand Island, Nebraska. He continued his education at University of Nebraska with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant 526th Engineer (1954). He retired in 1989 from Westinghouse, Lima, Ohio after 35 years of service in the Engineer Department. After retirement, Donald provided consulting services for Aircraft Dynamics in Elida, Ohio. He was active in the Masons. Donald served as Master of Covert Lodge #11 2005. In 2009 he was Worthy Patron Trinity 299 Eastern Star, Omaha, Nebraska. He was a member of Tangier Shrine, York Rite and Scottish Rite and Commandry. He was currently a member of Ohio Masons, Hamer Lodge 167 (Wapakoneta, Ohio).
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations can be made to Salem United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta, Ohio.
