Obituary for: William C. Weber
William Charles Weber, 89, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his home in Alva, Florida, after an extended illness. He was a native of Pennsylvania for 67 years before moving to Florida in 1988. William (better known as Bill) was born October 20, 1920 in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and was the son of William Charles Weber and Thora Christine Helsengreen. William's father died in 1925 at Hamburg, Pennsylvania when William was only five years old. His mother married Alvin C. Sine November 6, 1929 at Hellertown, Pennsylvania. Preceding William in death were his mother, step-father, and a sister Catherine Guentensperger, from Cortland, New York. William attended Girard Boy's College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from 1928 through 1936 and then attended Quakertown High School. He then worked with Quaker Equipment Co. in Quakertown, Pennsylvania as a sheet and metal helper; Sharpe Flynn Co. in Philadelphia as a sheet metal machinist; Bethlehem Steel as a machinist; G and A Aircraft Steel, Willow Grove, Pa. in tool and die; and U.S. Aircraft Modification Unit in Johnsville, Pa. as a machinist. On Dec. 8, 1944 he enlisted into the United States Army Infantry as a Private, promoted to Sergeant and served in England, France, Belgium, Germany and Austria as a Squad Leader. He was discharged July 8, 1946 at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. After his discharge he returned to work as an Engineering Technician at the U. S Naval Air Development Center in Johnsville, Pennsylvania, and retired January 2, 1976. William was proud of his military service and continued to serve in the Army Reserve after being discharges. Bill is survived by his wife Shellie, a son William Stanley Weber, Pennsville, N. J., a daughter Pamela Jean White, Quakertown, PA, three step-sons Ronald Arnie Thomas (Cyndi), Deltona, FL, Johnie Larry Thomas (Gail), Orlando, FL, and Charles Warren Thomas (Jan), Sherrills Ford, NC, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Akin-Davis Funeral Home, 13932 Palm Beach Blvd., Fort Myers, Florida. The Viewing will be held between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. The family requests donations be made to the local Hope Hospice. A military graveside service will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Alma, Georgia on Monday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m.
