Obituary of Kendall J. Cornelison
Kendall J. "Tip" Cornelison
A resident of Riverwood Nursing Home in Jacksonville, FL, passed into the arms of his Savior early Sunday morning January 15, 2012.
He was the son of Nello A. Cornelison and Hazel Smith Cornelison of Thomasville, N.C.
"Tip" was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard Mounted Shore Patrol in North Florida, serving later in New Guinea and the Philippines.
October 12, 1952 he married Magdalene Doby in Thomasville, later moving to South Florida. "Tip" initially worked at the Parrot Jungle, later at Holsum Bakeries as a machine mechanic retiring after 32 years.
He was attracted by the exotic wildlife while overseas, bringing a small monkey home after the war. Over time he and Magdalene became collectors and breeders of various animals, birds, reptile and fish. After Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida, their pace slowed down. Magdalene became ill and passed away in 2000.
"Tip" being unable to continue on, moved to Jacksonville, FL., to the home of a friend, then later to the nursing home. He was the last living child of Nello and Hazel Cornelison. Survivors are sister-in-law Earline Cornelison of Thomasville, N.C. and numerous nieces and nephews.
Faithful in church attendance, he missed only one Sunday service in 59 years and 3 months, Magdalena seven prior to her stroke.
A graveside service was held 11:00 am on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Ortona Cemetery, 12870 W. SR 78, Moore Haven, FL with Rev. Frank Deerey Jr. officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grace Fellowship Church, 3425 Sans Pareil St., Jacksonville, FL 32224.
