Obituary of Edward J. Myers

Father Edward Myers, age 82, of Lehigh Acres died Apr. 12, 2012 at Port Saint Lucie, FL. Father Myers was born on Oct. 20, 1929, the son of the late Harold and Lillian (Flanagan) Myers. He attended St. John's Baptist Parochial School, Jersey City, NJ; Seton Hall Preparatory High School and Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. In June, 1955 he graduated from Immaculate Conception Seminary and was ordained at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Newark, NJ. His first assignment was St. John's Church in Hillsdale, NJ where he served for 13 years. In Sept. 1968, he was transferred to St. Mary's Church in Rahway, NJ where he remained until his retirement in 1999. Besides his extensive parish work, he will be remembered by the staff and patients for his deep involvement with Rahway Hospital. He was very active serving as both a Hospital Chaplin and as a member of the hospital's Board of Directors. After his retirement, he also served for the last 12 years as a visiting priest at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Fort Myers, FL. He is survived by his sister and her spouse; Maureen and George Wilson of Whitesboro, NY, nephews and their spouses; Michael and Gayle Rondholz of Freehold, NJ, William and Cindy Rondholz of Roseville, Ohio, Russell Wilson of Rome, NY, nieces and their spouses; Robyn and Anthony Calabrese of Port Saint Lucie, FL, Susan and Curtis Chave of Port St. Lucie, FL, Catherine and Patrick Aiello of Port St. Lucie, FL, Patricia and Dennis Stinziano of Weston, FL, Janet and Tom Burton of Syracuse, NY, Karen and Skip Ziccardi of Newport Beach, CA and sister-in-law Carol Davidson of The Villages, FL. In addition, Father Myers is survived by a large number of loving grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law Catherine and William Rondholz and a brother and sister-in-law Harold Myers and Peggy Natelli. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Apr. 19, 2012, 9:00 a.m. at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Fort Myers with Father David L. Arle presiding. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 18 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 13031 Palm Beach Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL. A Vigil prayer service will be held Wednesday starting at 7:30 p.m. at the church. A Mass of Christian burial will also be held Thursday, Apr. 26, 2012, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Rahway, NJ and burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey. Visitation will be Apr. 25, St. Mary's Catholic Church with a Vigil prayer service starting at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 13031 Palm Beach Boulevard, Ft.
